| Description: |
The warehouses, located across the harbour from the elevators, were used in later years to store Australian wool in one, and cordite from the CIL plant in Nobel in the other. During the night of August 14, 1945, the warehouses caught fire. The flames were fanned by a strong wind, and the elevators across the harbour, in the process of being torn down, also caught fire. It is rumoured the flame was so bright a newspaper could be read in Parry Sound, seven miles away. |
