Chutes and Flumes

Log Chute

Available Images: Full Size
Accession Number: AI73
Category: Lumbering; Chutes / Flumes
Description: Logs pass from the upper to the lower part of the river by means of a chute, at centre, over the dam. Chutes allowed sawlogs to pass through without causing any damage. Below the dam, logs are held for processing in booms to prevent them from floating down river and on into the Bay. The Canadian Northern Railroad bridge is in the background.
