Log Jams

Log Jam

Available Images: Full Size
Accession Number: KA14b
Category: Lumbering; Log Jams
Description: Men would have to walk out onto the logs and begin to push the logs free from the jam. This was very dangerous work, and many men lost their lives when the jams broke free before they could get off. They would attach ropes to themselves so men on shore could pull them back in when the jam broke, but sometimes this did not work.
