Logging Operations

Wilder's Camp

Available Images: Full Size
Accession Number: JBM188
Category: Lumbering; Logging Operations
Description: Sandhills ensured sleds loaded with logs could safely proceed down hills. The sand was heated and shoveled onto the hills by a man called a "sandpiper." This job was quite delicate: too much sand would prevent the sled from sliding; not enough sand and the sled would speed down the hill.
