The Log Dump

Available Images: Full Size
Accession Number: JBM538
Category: Lumbering; Logging Operations
Description: In the winter, logs were hauled by horses from the woods to a cleared area beside a lake or river, called a log dump. In the spring, when the ice melted, the logs were pushed into the water. With the help of river drivers, the logs would travel to the lumber mills to be processed.
