| Description: | To pile the logs onto the sleighs, "senders" would use a "decking line." Horses would pull chains attached to the logs and connected to a pulley system. The logs would roll up the two smooth poles, angled from the ground to the top of the pile, at centre-right. The men would use "canthooks," poles with hinged spikes at the end, to ensure the logs were rolling square to the poles. The "toploader," on the top of the pile, was the head of the team, and directed the loading of the logs. |
