| Description: | The smelter processed iron, brought in from as far away as Duluth. It opened August 14, 1913. As an experiment, slag produced at the smelter was used to pave roads in town, but was soon removed, since it actually caused large holes in the roads. The smelter operated intermittently, and closed permanently in 1918. |
