| Description: | The bark of hemlock trees contains tannin, used in the curing of leather. Hemlock trees were felled, then stripped of their bark in June and the first week of July. The bark was dried for a day, then hauled to tanneries in Bracebridge, Parry Sound, Huntsville and Burk's Falls. There, the bark was ground up and placed into vats with the hides. |
