The "Waubuno"

Available Images: Full Size
Accession Number: VFVc9a
Category: Shipping; Passenger
Description: The side-wheeler steamer "Waubuno," owned by the Beatty Company, was built in 1865. It traveled from Collingwood and Midland to Parry Sound on a weekly basis. The ship sank in a snowstorm on November 22, 1879, after leaving Collingwood at 4:00 am. Twenty-four people perished. When the ship was late to arrive in Parry Sound, the "Mittie Grew," here docked at the "Waubuno's" bow, was sent to search for it. The hull of the ship wasn't located until months later.
