The Parry Sound Public Library celebrated its 100th birthday in 1998. Over the past century it has accumulated many books, photographs, books, journals, newspaper clippings, etc., dealing with the history of the District of Parry Sound, particularly the settlement, lumbering, shipping and rail transportation of the West side of the District. Most of the material is located in the Local History Room. The Township of Carling, one of the neighbouring municipalities that the Library serves, has graciously added photographs on fishing, shipping, farming and lumbering to the web site.

The West Parry Sound District Museum retraces the history of the Parry Sound Area with displays on logging, shipping, and life as it was in a small Northern Town. The Museum also features many traveling exhibits of lumbering, homesteading, ghostly shipwrecks, as well as art exhibits and children's programs over the summer. The West Parry Sound District Museum offers picnic gardens, a lookout tower, a panoramic view of Georgian Bay, and is a wonderful location for taking photographs. Contact us at:

The Christie Historical Committee was set up in May of 1991, at the request of the Christie Library, to gather historical information pertinent to the Township of Christie, which was anticipating a centennial celebration of its incorporation in 1994. The Committee has a modest collection of approximately 500 photographs relating to the people of Christie Township. The photos show residents and seasonal "tourists" at work, at school and at play. There are many old pictures and historic records of buildings, families, church groups , hunt camps , logging, railroading, and many other categories. The Committee has also published a book, entitled "Meanderings and Memories." Having very little of the history of people and events from 1945 to the present, we would appreciate any pictures, and verbal or written accounts relating to this, and any other, periods. We welcome inquiries as well as additional photographs and information.
